Elder Care

I AM JUST A CAREGIVER

Someone asked me what I do for a living. I said, “I’m a caregiver. I work in elderly clients’ homes.” The person made a face and changed the subject.
A lot of people don’t understand my job. Many people wouldn’t do my job. “Not for all the money in the world,” they say. Neither would I.
There is something special about this job. My patients need me. They really depend on me.
I not only care for them: I care about them as well!
Being a caregiver is not a glamorous job! It’s a very important one though. I take pride in my job and in my work. There is much to learn. I try to improve my skills and myself.
Things do get hectic. Sometimes the call-bells seem to go off all at once.
Family members ask me to do this or that. They all want priority. I do the best I can.
My work is the kind of work many sons or daughters can’t do or won’t do!
Yet somebody has to take care of the sick and the old.
So I bathe and shower my patients. I want them to be fresh and clean.
I comb and brush their hair. I want them to look nice.
Their hands shake and tremble so I have to cut their food and help them o eat. I want them to get the proper nourishment. Now do you understand why my job is so important? These people really need me. They depend on me. That’s why I feel I am a very special person. Even though, “I am just a caregiver”.

Once in a while an extraordinary group of people are able to collaborate their services to provide superior, professional care for the eldery in our community. This week we are happy to feature From the Heart Home Care who has been working with Sonoma Country residents since 2001 and is a company that professionals and the public can trust to provide quality senior support services. They have also been ranked a A+ Better Business Bureau rated company.

From the heart

From the Heart Home Care, Inc., is a locally owned and operated non-medical home care referral agency, serving Northern California from 6 Bay Area offices. They specialize in referring professional caregivers who have been thoroughly screened and meet stringent professional liability and bonding requirements.

Although not known to many, From the Heart Home Care puts their “Heart” back into the community in their own quiet way, without the need for public recognition or fanfare. Whether it is providing birthday cake and ice cream to the residents of assisted living or rehabilitation facilities, or gifts during the holidays, From the Heart Home Care is always there. Through their Holiday Gift Program, a confidential outreach to the residential facilities with whom they work helps find seniors and other residents who are without family or friends. Gifts are then donated on an anonymous basis, thus helping to bring a little cheer into people’s lives. Forging on-going community partnerships with those providing services to seniors and adults with disabilities is commonplace, including the Alzheimer’s Association, California Resource Centers and various County Human and Social Service Departments. In partnership with Adult Protective Services (APS), they have provided Caregiver services on a pro-bono basis for short periods until a facility opens up or other assistance services may be provided. Most recently, they helped sponsor the 2009 Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP) Appreciation Luncheon held in Santa Rosa by the Volunteer Center of Sonoma County, recognizing the community service of over 250 senior volunteers.
